The Journey of Letting Go  in 2026

One thing I have learned — or perhaps been forced to learn — is the journey of letting go. I say Journey because I am still on this journey.

1) Letting go of my worries

One of the biggest lessons for me this year was learning to worry less and trust more.

Matthew 6:34 (NIV) says:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

As someone who needs predictability, I dnt think I like changes or when plans change unexpectedly or when situations move outside my comfort zone - esp in this work where EVERYTHING is almost changing and moving all the time, and having to adapt... or when things dont go out way, wondering why it seems like we are walking backwards...... so many questions that sometimes become worries.

This year I have set my mind to: let go is to trust more by worrying less.

Often, my worry and anxiety come from my own desire to "BE IN CONTROL"

2) Letting go of my ego

When I let go, I am also surrendering my pride and ego — the belief that everything must go according to my values/plans.

1 Peter 5:6–7 (NIV) says:
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

Humility often precedes surrender. It reminds me that in the end, it is not my plan or anyone else’s plan that prevails, but God’s plan. Think I struggle a lot times when there are a lot of differing opinions - and I have learnt that its not about who is better, but what is God saying?

The question becomes: Am I aligned with His will? Or Are we aligned to His will?

Often times I pray God be in control, but actually the hardest part was GOD TAKE CONTROL. God never promised a life without troubles, but He clearly instructs us not to worry or holding on adds nothing to our lives.

3) Letting go of any striving

- by learning to work from a place of rest not stress, learning to be fast, but not rushed.

2) Seeing Difficulties as Opportunities

Another lesson in letting go was learning to see challenges differently. Instead of viewing difficulties as interruptions, I am learning to see them as opportunities for growth, shaping, and transformation.

Isaiah 64:8 (ESV) says:
“But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our potter; we are all the work of Your hand.”

Difficult seasons may feel uncomfortable, but they are often where God does His deepest work in us. Just as clay must be moulded and pressed by the potter, we too are shaped through hardship.

Not every challenge is meant to break us — some are meant to build us.

Pointers:

  • Difficulties can be opportunities for growth.
  • God uses discomfort to shape character.
  • Challenges often develop patience, resilience, and faith.
  • Trust the process even when you do not understand it.

.

To wait upon the Lord is to trust in Him — and in that trust, strength is renewed.

Rest is more than sleep. It is about how we choose to replenish ourselves: body, soul, and spirit. I realised that when I do not nourish myself well — physically, emotionally, or spiritually — I become restless, striving, and stressed.

True rest comes when I remain rooted in God and allow Him to refill what life has drained.

Pointers:

  • Rest is spiritual, emotional, and physical.
  • Strength is renewed when we wait on God.
  • Stress often comes from striving in our own strength.
  • Healthy rhythms help us live and serve sustainably.

Closing Reflection

Letting go is not passive. It is an active choice to surrender control, trust God’s process, and rest in His provision. It is a daily journey of releasing fear, pride, and striving — and embracing faith, humility, and peace.

Sometimes letting go is less about losing control, and more about placing it into the right hands.
